Privacy Policy

Joanna (Jo) Cheer, trading as “Cheerie”, is committed to respecting and protecting the privacy of everyone who visits and buys from www.cheerie.co.uk .

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information may be collected when using the website, why it is needed, how it is looked after, and the choices visitors and customers have regarding their information.

Cheerie is a small, independently run business and this policy is intended to explain things as simply and clearly as possible.

Information collected and how it is used

The personal information collected by Cheerie is information that customers and visitors choose to provide, for example when placing an order, contacting Jo Cheer by email, or signing up to the newsletter.

Depending on how the website is used, this may include:

* name;

* email address;

* billing and delivery address;

* information provided when placing an order;

* information contained in an email or other enquiry; and

* information relating to newsletter subscriptions.

Some basic technical information may also be collected automatically when someone visits the website, as explained in the Cookies section below.

Cheerie only collects and uses personal information where it is needed to provide the service requested, fulfil an order, respond to an enquiry, communicate with customers, or run and maintain the website and business.

Orders and purchases

When an order is placed through the Cheerie website, the information provided is used to process and fulfil that order.

This may include using a customer's name, email address and delivery address to arrange payment, fulfilment and delivery, and to contact the customer about their order where necessary.

The information is also used where necessary to deal with returns, refunds or questions relating to an order.

The lawful basis for using this information is generally that it is necessary to fulfil the contract between Cheerie and the customer. Some information may also need to be kept because of legal, accounting or tax requirements.

Payment information

Orders are processed through Squarespace, which provides the website and online shop.

Payment is made through Stripe or PayPal, depending on the payment method chosen at checkout.

Cheerie does not store customers' full payment-card details.

Payment information is handled by the relevant payment provider in accordance with its own security and privacy arrangements.

Email enquiries

If someone contacts Jo Cheer by email, the information contained in that email, including their email address and name where provided, will be used to respond to the enquiry and deal with any related request.

Emails will not be used for unrelated marketing unless the person has separately chosen to receive marketing communications.

The Cheerie newsletter

Visitors can choose to sign up to the Cheerie newsletter.

The newsletter is written and sent personally by Jo Cheer. No separate newsletter or email marketing company is used to send these emails.

Newsletter subscribers may receive occasional emails about Jo's artwork, new work, exhibitions, events, news and other updates relating to Cheerie.

The newsletter is intended to be occasional rather than frequent, and is generally sent around two to three times a year.

Newsletter subscriptions are optional. Anyone who no longer wishes to receive the newsletter can unsubscribe at any time by using the “Unsubscribe” option included in the newsletter, or by contacting Jo Cheer directly at info@cheerie.co.uk .

Newsletter contact information will not be sold or passed to another organisation for its own marketing purposes.

How personal information is shared

Cheerie does not sell, rent or otherwise trade personal information.

Information may be shared with other organisations where this is necessary to provide a service requested by the customer.

For example, information may be shared with:

Squarespace, which provides the website and online shop;

Stripe, where Stripe is used to process a payment;

PayPal, where PayPal is chosen as the payment method; and

Postal or delivery services where these are needed to deliver an order.

These organisations may process personal information as part of providing their services. They have their own privacy policies and security arrangements.

Information may also be disclosed where Cheerie is legally required to do so.

Cookies

The Cheerie website is hosted on Squarespace and uses cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for the website to operate and provide the services requested by visitors.

These include technologies required for the basic operation and security of the website and its online shop. They may, for example, allow the website to remember items placed in a shopping basket, maintain a customer's session during checkout, and support the secure processing of an order.

These are essential functions of the website and online shop rather than cookies used by Cheerie to build advertising or behavioural profiles of visitors.

Cheerie does not intentionally use optional cookies for advertising, behavioural tracking or targeted marketing.

Where Squarespace uses essential cookies or similar technologies as part of providing the website and shop, these may operate without separate consent where they fall within the applicable exemption for technologies that are strictly necessary to provide a service requested by the visitor. More information about cookies used on a Squarespace website can be found here.

If the website is changed in the future and optional analytics, advertising or other non-essential cookies or similar technologies are introduced, the cookie information and this Privacy Policy will be updated and consent will be requested where required.

Keeping personal information secure

Jo Cheer takes reasonable steps to keep personal information safe and to prevent it from being accidentally lost, misused or accessed by someone who should not have access to it.

Personal information held digitally is password protected and two-factor authentication is used where available.

Cheerie does not intentionally keep customers' personal information in paper or other physical records.

No online service can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but reasonable precautions are taken to protect the information held.

How long information is kept

Personal information is only kept for as long as it is reasonably needed.

Information relating to an order may need to be retained for a period of time for accounting, tax and legal purposes.

Information relating to an enquiry will generally be kept only for as long as is needed to deal with the enquiry and any related matters.

If someone unsubscribes from the newsletter, their email address will no longer be used to send them newsletters. A limited record may be retained where necessary to make sure that they are not accidentally contacted again.

When personal information is no longer needed, it will be securely deleted.

Your rights

UK data protection law gives individuals a number of rights concerning their personal information.

Depending on the circumstances, these include the right to:

* ask what personal information Cheerie holds about them;

* ask for inaccurate information to be corrected;

* ask for the use of their information to be restricted in certain circumstances;

* object to certain uses of their information, including direct marketing;

* request a copy of their information in certain circumstances; and

* withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

These rights do not apply in every situation and there are some legal exceptions.

Anyone who would like to ask about their personal information, exercise one of these rights, or simply has a question about privacy can contact Jo Cheer at:
